Colloquio
The concept of the product and the community-driven business model of this company initially captivated my interest. The anticipation to participate in the interview process was quite high, owing to the uniqueness of the company's mission. However, the overall execution of the interview process left much to be desired. While the approach of focusing on situational questions to understand my problem-solving skills in real-time scenarios was appreciated, the breadth of the topics often led to a lack of focus. Moreover, there seemed to be a discrepancy in the calibration of the interviewers. One admitted unfamiliarity with the questions being asked, indicating a lack of preparation. Another interviewer was prone to frequent interruptions, even resorting to making a joke at my expense, which I found to be unprofessional. A few questions asked were also irrelevant to the context of the role I was interviewing for, which was quite confusing. Upon inquiring about the company's operational dynamics, it became apparent that there exists a degree of chaos and a lack of structured processes. I believe my skill set could have been beneficial in addressing these issues, so it's unfortunate that the interview process didn't allow for this potential to be recognized. The most disheartening part of the process was the lack of feedback provided post-interview. This creates a missed learning opportunity for interviewees, as there's no way to identify areas for improvement. In conclusion, while the product and business model of the company intrigued me, the interview process was unsatisfactory and could benefit from more structure, preparation, and a commitment to constructive feedback.
Overall neutral experience. The interviewer seemed to be looking for very specific answers for the questions. For the interview guidance, I was told that I'll need a writing tool like Google Docs because there would be a writing component. In reality, that wasn't the case. The prompt was incredibly vague and more of a "think on your feet" situation. The interviewer didn't provide much guidance so you're essentially left guessing what they're specifically looking for.
As feedback to the Metabase team, you might get more value out of the conversation if you provide the prompt ahead of time so candidates can at least prepare and have a meaningful discussion during the interview.
