Applied for a Senior Software Engineer (Java) at Mollie in July 2022. Initially had a screening call with a recruiter(Neil) where he described the hiring process at Mollie in a nutshell. Neil was very friendly, provided a good level of support, and transferred all the feedback he had on each stage. As for the interview phases – there were 4 of them: hackerrank test, code review session, system design session, and cultural fit. Hackerrank(90 minutes): 3 questions that could be answered with a programming language you like (JS, C#, Java 8/17). Nothing really difficult – not a dumb leetcode questions but more like the things you might face from day to day on your work Code review(45 minutes): they will give you a gist with a code where you will have to identify all the problems that code has and also offer improvements (just in words, you can't actually provide any code). Cultural fit(60 minutes): nothing really fancy, just a friendly talk about different kinds of situations you faced/might face. System design(75 minutes): you will be given general statements of how the system you are designing should behave. The task is to ask as many questions as possible, draw the diagrams, describe a database schema, and discuss potential performance issues you might have. All went well (maybe except system design interview) and it end up giving me an offer for a Middle PHP engineer position, which was pretty awkward to hear and accept. Overall that was a positive experience and all the people I talked to were really nice and positive. I think that would be a good experience working at Mollie if they could give a position you've applied to but not offer a not relevant to your experience opportunity.

The interview process was well-structured and consisted of several stages. It started with an initial call with the HR team, followed by a coding test on HackerRank. If the test was passed successfully, the next steps involved two technical interviews: the first focused on reviewing a pull request (PR), and the second on System Design. If the technical stages were cleared, the process continued with two additional interviews—one assessing alignment with company culture and another with the prospective manager. These non-technical interviews included a significant number of behavioral and situational questions aimed at evaluating how candidates approach different business scenarios and challenges.
