I was referred by a professional connection. This person actually went as far as to deliver my resume in person (I also applied online). After a couple weeks of no response, he went back to his contact to see what had happened. I finally received an email a few days after that to schedule a time for an initial conversation. Five minutes prior to my scheduled phone call, the recruiter emailed me saying she needed to reschedule for the following week. I rescheduled and the day of the phone call, she called me an hour late. She explained/apologized that she put a different time on the calendar than what she told me. I am very understanding and still eager because I have only heard great things about the company and the culture via my connection. The conversation started off great, mainly because she was talking about all the great stuff Niagara does. When it came to answering questions, I would notice that she muted the phone (I am assuming some sort of distraction or side conversation in the background) and there were unusually long pauses after my answers to the point where I had to ask if she was still there. That feeling of disinterest in what I had to say is awful, especially considering the reschedule and hour late phone call. The job search is already incredibly difficult as it is, but this was a terrible first impression of Niagara's culture. As soon as we were done, she proceeded to let me know next steps which started with what happens if I am not chosen to move forward before what happens if I do move forward. I hope they treat their employees better than I was treated. I am still waiting/expecting the rejection email.
