Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto 3 settimane. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso PDG Consulting (Los Angeles, CA) nel mese di mar 2016

      Colloquio

First reached out by HR over email. I didn't respond. Then received another follow up email. Phone interview over the phone. Then moved onto on site interview. Straight forward. 3 weeks later, final interview with the team.

      Colloquio

The interview process with PDG Consulting was like a poorly edited scene from HBO's Silicon Valley. After a phone screen and completing a Codility test, I was invited for an onsite interview at their office. Finding their office was quite difficult, given it was located on the top floor of a condo somewhere near Skid Row of Downtown LA and appears to have the same address as a barbershop located immediately downstairs. Inside of their office were 10 - 12 computers circled around a Lifetime table that is the exact same model used by the nice family that once sold tacos on the corner of 3rd and Serrano in Koreatown. Quite frankly, the work environment resembled the set of a movie depicting a tiny sweatshop. A civil engineer turned software engineer resembling Andrew Schulz grabbed a man resembling Christoper Khai's character from the 2006 comedy, Accepted. I was taken upstairs, where there was a smaller Lifetime table in front of a whiteboard. Outside sat a young woman who I can confidently identify as my recruiter given that I've been in correspondence with a young woman for weeks and she was the only woman present. I sat on the opposite end of the table in front of these two characters, who dived right into drilling me about my last internship experience. In spite of the numerous other relevant experiences listed on my resume, they were only interested in the last internship I completed. This would not have raised any red flags if this wasn't very lucidly the ONLY thing they were interested in. Their questions transitioned from wanting to understand what I did to a space of wanting to understand how I did what I did, with questions about code implementation/refactoring, where to acquire the relevant software, and other minute specifics. After 30 minutes of questioning me with regards to this internship experience, they then asked me to implement an algorithm for the recursive Fibonacci, which I did in about 2 minutes. I explained my solution and they seemed more than content with it, stating that my solution may be better than the one they already had in front of them. Prior to the interview, I was told I would be reimbursed for parking, but when I told them parking was $16 dollars, Schulz told me their maximum reimbursement amount for parking was $7 dollars. He went into a drawer, counted out $7 dollars in singles, and handed it to me with a smirk. I was then shown the door and told I would hear back in 3 - 4 weeks. I never heard back. I truly hope this fledgling group of mid-level programmers got all the information they wanted out of me and that they don't waste anyone else's time and gas money the way they wasted mine.

We would like to apologize that you had a negative experience interviewing with us. Our team has been expanding rapidly and unfortunately that comes with some growing pains. We are constantly striving to make improvements and have already made significant investments in the way we work with our perspective job candidate's and with our recruiting process. While our main office is in close proximity to Skid Row, 6th and Spring is at the epicenter of the cultural revival happening in Downtown Los Angeles. We are excited to be a part of it and are committed to supporting the local community here. We are located in the penthouse of a modern residential building and admittedly this could be unexpected and hard to find. Based on our clients feedback we know we have some of the brightest software developers in the Media and Entertainment industry. As for the interview itself we find past internship experience to be a crucial component to making our decision. You definitely should have been reimbursed the full amount for parking and directed specifically to our lot. The recruiting coordinator was in a meeting when you left and unfortunately your interviewer was only following our standard reimbursement policy. We are sorry for your bad experience and have made changes to avoid this in the future. We definitely appreciate your feedback and wish you well in your job search.
