      Colloquio

Everyone that I interacted with was polite, but the overall interview process was deeply flawed. I went through four separate interviews with this company over 1.5 months, each with a different person. At one point, I prepared for my second interview based on the job description that was initially provided. However, during the conversation, interviewer #2 described a very different set of responsibilities and expectations. I had to pivot in real time to adjust to this new direction. This misalignment continued throughout the process, as each person I spoke with had a different perspective on what the role involved. This company played hot and cold throughout the process. The interview process felt rushed at times, with short-notice scheduling, which created a sense of urgency for me. I was excited because I wanted to wrap this process up quickly, get started, and take a deep dive into their business and operations. But after each interview, it was followed by long periods of silence. The biggest red flag for me was that I was asked to complete a take-home assignment after one of the interviews, with just a 1-hour turnaround time. That kind of demand, without prior notice or flexibility, felt unreasonable and unprofessional. Once I completed their assignment, there was no follow-up communication, and I received no feedback on the assignment. The only response I received was a request for a 4th interview after a period of no communication with the company. During all of these interviews, I had 4 different takes on what the role was going to be, nobody was in alignment at all. And after all of my interviews, that level of inconsistency speaks to a deeper issue in the team’s structure and expectations. I put a lot of time and effort into preparing for these interviews for a job that kept changing from person to person over the 1.5 months I was in this process. I mentally checked out after the 4th interview, and then they came back and wanted a 5th interview. My advice to candidates: Be sure to ask direct questions about role clarity, team structure, and expectations. There are some major alignment issues that may affect your ability to succeed here. The people that I met in these interviews were more than kind, and I would have gladly worked for them, but the process and organization need serious attention.
