A 30 minute initial phone-call. I was asked to tell the interviewer my "life story" - everything I had done from the time I graduated college until the present moment. This was the most unpleasant interview I have ever experienced because the interviewer was working from a coffee shop (so hip and trendy!) which meant that he couldn't hear me properly and kept asking me to repeat myself which interrupted the whole flow of the interview. I also couldn't hear myself think because of all the background noise on his end: coffee grinders, customers moving around, cash register. etc. In an effort to be "cool" (our employees work from coffee shops!) Shopify has developed an interview process that doesn't truly allow for a proper assessment of potential candidates.

Unnecessarily time-consuming. I was recently interviewed for a role with Shopify that consisted of three interviews, including a panel interview, and a task. After I was invited to participate in the second round, I requested the salary scale to no avail. After this point, I requested the salary scale three more times and was ignored on two occasions. I was concerned about prioritising this role without any salary indication but I proceeded to the final round of the interview process. Unfortunately, the recruiter I was dealing with didn't even give me the time to tell me that I didn't get the role and I learned through LinkedIn that another candidate was recruited. Very frustrating and time-consuming process.
