Colloquio
I called the owner of the company. His phone number was listed in a local newspaper, under jobs.
When I called him, I was on my way home, he said "I'm at the yard right now if you have the time. ".
I asked for the address, told I'd be there in about 45 minutes, and went.
When I got there he was outside working on a truck. He introduced himself, stuck his hand out and we shook hands. I had grease all over my hands, but the vibe was positive and happy.
He asked if I had time for a test drive. I said yes.
We jump in the truck, I inspect the inside of the cab and bunk, check the paperwork, the dashboard, all gauges and both horns. I get back out of the truck, so does he, l inspect the truck and trailer. We get back in the truck and go for a test drive. All gravel back roads to farms and processing plants, lots of turning, most turns were tight.
They were easy. For anyone with 2 to 3 years experience there would have been no issue.
Back at the yard, I backed the truck and trailer into a spot he pointed at, shut the truck down and waited for him to speak.
He asked when I could start. I said: "tomorrow ". He told me a time, introduced me to the company manager, assigned me a truck, said: "Welcome to the company!", shook my hand, then turned and left.
