Send an application via Stanford's centralized job site. Was contacted a few weeks later by the hiring manager, and all communication was done through her. The process wasn't particularly bureaucratic: a phone screen for the top 10 candidates, then in-person interviews for the top 3. They were fairly flexible with scheduling, and the interview itself went great. Heard back after about 2 weeks with the result (negative, sadly).
