      Colloquio per Native English Teacher

      17 gen 2025

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto un giorno. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Tiny Talents (Hong Kong) nel mese di gen 2025

      Colloquio

I withdrew my candidacy about 30 minutes after the unprofessional interview. I won't work somewhere that shows blatant disrespect for their prospective employees. Interviewer, who apparently is also the head teacher, was over 15 minutes late to the scheduled time. I had to reach out during our scheduled time to check in, and was told she was in another interview. When she did join, she made no acknowledgement to her tardiness. So not only can't she manage her own schedule (by running over time with another interview), she doesn't respect your time as well. A simple apology would've went a long way into smoothing this over. The overwhelming majority of questioning was regarding my scheduling availability -- not my experience, my credentials or how I would be as a teacher. It seemed like they'll take any warm body as a teacher. She seemed to insinuate that taking Sunday off was a privilege. Sundays are commonly off days across Hong Kong, so this is atypical. It rubbed me the wrong way that she asked me for my expected salary in this preliminary round without even getting to know me or how I'd fit in. I'd understand if we already had a fruitful discussion with greater context about the role, but this call was cold and purely logistical. Even before the interview, the interviewer did not have the attention to detail to check if the introductory web form she sent was accessible. The Google Docs form was locked and I had to request access to it. While this is a small misstep taken individually, it points to larger incompetence when taken with the full context of the interview experience. If you have no other options and don't care about your own experience -- you just want to clock in and clock out with little regard to anything else -- then by all means, apply here. If you take teaching seriously, take personal respect seriously and take competence in your future colleagues seriously -- stay far away.

Asked me to go for an interview without even looking at my CV. I know because I was told that the most I would get there was 21k for someone without any experience ,and the amount I asked for are for teachers with over 10 years of experience. I then proceeded to point out that I do indeed have over 10 years of teaching experience. I suspect that the turnover rate is so high, they don’t even bother looking at the CVs and ask people to turn up regardless. After a 5 minute chat, the interviewer told me that she was happy with my interview, but could not make me an offer as “you will never be able to get this salary in New Territories.” The whole interview lasted around 15 minutes.

The interview was easy and went smooth. They don’t care whether you have teaching experiences or not. They provide training with the contract (18/24 months). The training period is usually 5 weeks long and the pay during training is $100/hr. The down side is that there is a penalty if you leave before the contract ends even if you give them a month notice, which is amount to one month worth of salary.
