Router is a level 3 of the OSI layer where as a Switch is a level 2 of the OSI layer . Router uses IP addresses for routing and delivery of packets where as a Switch uses MAC address to deliver the payload to the relevant destination. Router are used at the WAN layer where as Switches are used at the LAN layer of the network architecture.
