I recently completed a test assignment as part of an interview process. I followed the technical requirements very carefully every point in the task was implemented exactly as described, including the UI part. However, I added a small detail to the UI that I thought would make the overall experience cleaner and more user-friendly. Ironically, that extra effort was viewed negatively and became the reason for rejection. It’s a bit discouraging, because I didn’t miss or break any requirement I just went slightly beyond the scope with good intentions. Still, I respect the decision. Apparently, this is a place where proactivity isn’t expected precision within the given boundaries is. You have to be surgically accurate with your skills and interpretations of the requirements. And maybe, finishing the task well ahead of the deadline wasn’t the best idea either.
