      Colloquio per Director Role

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto 3 mesi. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso myenergi (Grimsby, Inghilterra) nel mese di feb 2022

      Colloquio

I interviewed for a department Director role in February this year. Stage 1 was a phone interview with the recruiter and stage 2 was a virtual face to face with CTO, Dr. Chris Horne. (no one else present) The interview which totally the full 60 minutes is best summed up as bizarre (or difficult?)- for the first 20 minutes no questions were asked. Dr. Chris would make general statements and wait for engagement, but many of the statements were closed and did not invite conversation; there was little flow or breadcrumbs to hook the responses onto. At times he appeared quite distracted. The conversation eventually settled into statement/question after the above 20 or so minutes rather than any traditional interview style and the following were covered: Explanation of the company, future strategic plans - are you excited? Is this something you're a strong match for? Can you setup [*this* function, methodically covered in what appears to be an unread CV which highlighted 20 years of experience] Where will you be based? A conversation about credibility of having an electrician at the table and the lack of an electrician background. [I had to underscore that you cannot feasibly fill every business function with someone from an electrician's background] Solving the department solution in-house vs outsourcing. Overall an unusual interview - a solo rather than panel with no note-taking on myenergi's side and one flagged as difficult purely because the conversation was jarring. There was just about enough to shoehorn in some STAR examples and reframe the question. The department in question was a merging of 2 functions that are not traditionally merged in any other sector and I got the distinct impression that unicorns were being chased; this is underscored by the fact the role is removed from the website and has not been filled as of June 22- potential strategic or budgetary review? On the HR side it took a month and a half to get a response to the interview, and this I had to chase. Speaking to a former colleague of mine who eventually pulled out of the software developer application due to admin errors and a decline followed by an invite to next round, recruitment shenanigans appear to be par for the course if our two interviews are anything to go by.
