The staff at AHH are amazing. So are the clients - working as a companion was an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable experience. Working as a companion is flexible, since you get to pick your hours. (Of course, the more hours you are available, the more work you will get.)

The pay as a companion is low, and you don't get benefits. But that's just the nature of working as a part-timer at a non-profit. The good news is that you're at least considered an employee (not an independent contractor), so you get unemployment coverage and AHH covers half of your FICA taxes so that you don't get hit with double taxes at the end of the year. I've heard that some similar companies in the area try to make their employees "independent contractors" to avoid this, and that just screws their employees over. AHH doesn't do that.
