Vantaggi

-You will learn a TON about how small businesses manage (or mismanage) themselves. -Great introduction to professional sales. -Great introduction to small business community. -Good work life balance, you set your own schedule based on appointments, prospecting, etc. -The office knows how to throw a party and have fun in time off, for sales incentives, we went to comedy clubs, team golfing, pedal bus pub crawls, Fridays off etc. -Good benefits, stock options, 401(k), medical, dental, vision. -Depending on the market, if businesses are starting up, you will have success

Svantaggi

-For the first 3 months, you will be cold calling, walking door to door handing out flyers and business cards with limited results. -Turnover is AWFUL, I worked there for 14 months, and there were only 5 people were left from when I started, within the first 3 months of being there I actually counted 13 people had quit or been fired (mostly quit). -Highest priced product in the industry, in this market particularly, people are not willing to spend that much. -TONS of competition, not only other payroll service providers, but you compete with banks, bookkeepers, in-house accountants / office managers, Quickbooks. -Despite management telling you their only competitor is Paychex, in fact this is a VERY diluted industry, every company has an online product that can calculate payroll and pay their employees. -Payroll industry is driven by employment, and in a down economy, it is not exactly the best product to sell, especially in Oregon. -Nobody cares about payroll, it is not on the top of mind of 99% of decision makers, and overall it comes down to price, no matter how many "benefits" ADP's RUN platform can offer. -Last but not least, PAYROLL IS BORING, not a fun thing to sell, nobody cares about it, and convincing somebody to switch companies is not easy.

Vantaggi

- Established company with a long history and relatively stable business operations. - Provides a sense of job stability compared to many organizations navigating rapid changes in the current AI-driven market. - Lower risk of frequent restructuring or large-scale layoffs than many high-growth technology companies. - Opportunity to work with experienced employees who have deep institutional and domain knowledge. - Predictable work environment that may appeal to individuals seeking long-term stability over rapid change. - Strong choice for professionals who value job security and a steady career path in an uncertain economic climate.

Svantaggi

- Documentation is limited or rusted, and many operational processes lack clear runbooks or standardized procedures, making onboarding and troubleshooting more difficult than necessary. - If you're coming from a modern, fast-paced engineering environment, the organization may feel behind current industry practices and tooling. - Internal politics can sometimes outweigh technical merit or execution. - There are teams with very long-tenured employees where change and innovation can be difficult to drive. - Decision-making often involves multiple layers of approval, resulting in significant bureaucracy and slower execution. - Processes can move slowly, and collaboration is not always transparent across teams, leading to inefficiencies and occasional confusion around ownership. - In some areas, roles, responsibilities, and operational processes are not clearly defined, creating unnecessary chaos and inconsistent ways of working. - Engineering standards and best practices vary considerably between teams, making cross-team collaboration challenging. - Organizational change tends to happen slowly, which can be frustrating for employees who are focused on modernization, automation, and continuous improvement.
