— Treated like robots. Literally being called “it” by doctors referring to you as the tablet your face appears on. — Terrible work life balance. No regard for the humanity of interpreters. 17% increase in revenue and no quality of life improvements for interpreters. — No cost-of-living adjustment in years. — Disregard for interpreters’ mental health. Evidenced by 30 seconds between calls, banning natural light sources in offices, giving no breaks between calls to even stand up, yet sending out micro-learning modules stating “make sure you stretch for 20 seconds, often!”…. With what time? It’s insulting. — Back-to-back emergency calls are normal. No sorting of calls to try and evenly balance who gets emergencies — Disregard for interpreter physical health: No stand-up breaks between calls, Chronic audio problems will leave your ears ringing and affect your ability to work. No stipend for ergonomic chair where you sit 8 hours daily. — Health insurance plan has an Unbelievably high deductible at $7000: Spend 15% of income before health insurance kicks in, by then you’ll most likely run out of PTO and be asked to resign or be fired for poor attendance. — Bare minimum legal breaks. — High burnout. Interpreters are wrung out like a sponge and discarded. — No meaningful opportunity for advancement. Getting a raise doesn’t even pay for your cost of getting the certification required for the raise. — Required to keep certifications current at your own expense. — Pays less than half of what you get in-person. — Outdated stipend for home office expenses. Not paid adequately for lighting required or electrical usage or internet connection. — A“merit-based” raise didn’t even match 1/2 of inflation since the last raises. So everyone is effectively paid substantially less even though the revenue is up 17% and shareholders get to benefit, just not employees. — Told that using the bathroom daily is “Time theft” and could get you fired.

Like many large organizations, priorities could shift quickly, making it challenging to balance competing initiatives. Communication between departments could sometimes be improved, and decision-making occasionally took longer than expected because of the size of the organization.
