I believe the founders are confused what mentorship means. For instance, there was a time where a very talented photographer was tasked with making a video. Photography and video are separate things, so it's strange to imagine the founders tasked this creator with video work without any sort of mentorship on creating a video. When the creator turned in a less-than-perfect video, instead of reflecting on how THEY (the founders) could have done better, or how they could now provide mentorship, they talked smack about this creator and basically black listed them from future projects. That's when I knew this whole place doesn't care about their mission and lacks the ability to recognize and encourage creative strengths.
