Vantaggi
Flexible schedule and ability to work from home are excellent. Opportunity for a newly-credentialed coder to gain experience in coding and update the resume with current experience. Part-time schedule gives you a chance to look for a 'real' job.
Svantaggi
Hired July 2016, completed training a month later. Received one email regarding a username/password for accessing company system; after a week without further contact, I called the Help Desk for assistance. Only then did I receive instructions for configuring and accessing the coding portal. THEN my account information was submitted late, necessitating another week's wait for me to even have access to the coding system. I had no information on who I reported to and resorted to digging around in the company organizational chart to find out the name of my advocate. I emailed the advocate to introduce myself and request information. No expectations for accuracy or productivity were shared, either in training or once in production. Chart review system is cumbersome and poorly explained. It took over a week to have my initial charts QAed. No timeframe given for when the coder can be released into regular production. It's to the point I'm logging in daily just to see if I still have system access (and can therefore consider myself hired). Payscale is nebulous and does not appear to reflect what I was told by the recruiter (e.g., per-chart depending on chart length; it's reported as hourly on my pay stub). Despite the fact that there are several hundred coding updates going into effect October 1, there are no plans for training coders on these. Basically, ZERO communication, disorganized onboarding process, no goals or expectations indicated.
