Vantaggi
Salaries are OK, but a bit meh even for very experienced employees. A big chunk of your salary is topped up by Amazon shares, which in theory should be a good deal, but if you've joined since early 2021, your salary is now effectively going down instead of up, and looks like doing so for a long time to come as Amazon shares are tied to retail buying. Oh, and you don't get shares until you've been here two years+. You're allocated time to learn, but most people use it each week to catch up on administrative tasks, as that's just not possible otherwise. And you'll need to keep it up to date because AWS has a huge reliance on admin data to rank its staff. After you've been here 18 months you feel like a cog in a massive machine, most burn out after 2-3 years in specialist roles. On the plus side, whatever you do after will seem easy by comparison. Nice on your CV, if you're willing to give up the rest of your life.
Svantaggi
It's challenging at AWS because finding anything is a complete shambles. Multiple systems to do the same thing, and difficult to find information. Whilst it used to be rewarding when the share price was high, it's not any more. If you've not burned out from the sheer amount of administration, clunky systems and frankly weird ways of assessing you (supposedly data driven - except it's not...), then you'll find your share price back down to 2018 levels and dropping as Microsoft take share from them. Forget being promoted unless you want to put yourself through the mill even more.
