Amex is a very relationship based culture but also very hierarchical so you spend a lot of time managing senior leader egos. Sometimes placement in a particular job will be based on how much a senior leader likes you. Also decision making is very slow and there is a pervasive culture of passive aggressive communication. Every company has it's underbelly, but all of the above can ware on you after a while.
