Salaries and benefit packages are very competitive. My experiences with raises and work-life balance were positive at one of their manufacturing facilities. That particular facility is a heritage Chevron/Chevron Phillips site and the culture has been significantly different that some of the other locations. That difference was positive with generally decent communication, a great work-life balance, and excellent compensation. The various joint ventures leading to Americas Styrenics have brought both positive and negative experiences, but I am sad to say that most of those have been negative.

There are limited opportunities for advancement and training at the manufacturing sites. There is only one right way to do anything (driven by one of the "new" JV partners) even if it means turning the clocks back 20 years. This is a smaller company with big market share and it should be nimble and able to act quickly and decisively. Unfortunately, the company is hampered by behaving like a big chemical company. The performance management system does nothing to foster teamwork and collaboration amongst operating sites; there is definitely an "us" against "them" mentality with is further driven by metrics reporting.

Positive experiences come from direct coworkers in the plant. They are professional, talented, and supportive, despite the payroll failures.

The company has a history of significant pay errors resulting in systemic wage theft. A substantial payroll discrepancy was recently confirmed by management, but after months of delays, the company has refused to issue the corrective back pay. Corporate provides zero transparency and operates with a profound disregard for employees legally entitled compensation Employees are forced to spend significant personal time auditing their own paychecks, creating an environment of mistrust and financial stress. It’s concerning when local management views paying employees correctly as luck or generosity. it’s compliance with California law. Fair pay is a right, not a reward.
