Vantaggi

Arbitron WAS a great company. They set up employee outings and team building exercises. Benefits were out of this world. 401k and profit share was good. Moral was usually high and everyone at Arbitron treated one another like family. All of my star ratings and approval for the CEO are all for Arbitron.

Svantaggi

Once the "merger" began with Nielsen everything went down hill. People became distant and secretive. You never knew what was going to happen next. Although the Nielsen staff ensured that everyone would be kept in the lope with all the changes that would be happening within the company; things seemed to pan out a little different. When the day came for layoffs to happen you were basically treated like a contestant on American Idol. You were taken into a room and told whether you were staying or going and never given a reason for why you were one of the 600 let go. After everything was changed to Nielsen you no longer felt like an employee. But rather just another "associate."

Vantaggi

-Tuition Reimbursement -Work/Life Balance -Strong support of professional advancement (courses, conferences, etc.) -Interesting Work -Stable (for the entertainment industry, which is largely unstable). Never felt like I was on the verge of being fired. -Progressive on HR policies -Smart Co-workers in most departments (not technology though) -Minimal Ego Issues -Lots of well earned respect for most of the the top executives. -Academic-like mindset in research and development groups.

Svantaggi

-If you're moving up really quick in your career, you unfortunately will eventually need to leave after 3-5 years or so. -Technology/Engineering group is particularly weak in talent except for a handful of people. -You only hear larger management goals/strategies once in awhile. -They struggle with new initiatives outside of their core radio ratings business...nearly all eventually flop. -Could benefit from some entrepreneurial spirit. -Management is too distant from what the regular employee knows.
