- Community seems very set in their ways, not very progressive thinking when it comes to employees or work schedules... especially for the staff - Staff are treated as peons in comparison to most of the faculty. - The ability to develop oneself professionally here is limited to the classes that ASU offers, attached to a degree. No significant continuing education or professional development is offered at the university level, other than management training (LINAU is pretty good). - I've seen people who were valuable to the institution fired months before they retired on multiple occasions in multiple departments. - Competitive promotions make it possible to be demoted or lose your job because you wanted to move up the ladder, and had to interview for your position. - There are no cost of living raises, only merit based. While it's great that they are pushing for great things... There isn't always money to give to everyone who has done great things. Even then, it's no more than 3% per year... unless you're a director or dean or higher - Parking is limited and hard to get. Once one can get a parking pass, they can cost $800 per year. - There's definitely some shady business practices used by some of the faculty and administration - Lots of outsourcing of jobs that should really be held in house (networking and janitorial positions come to mind right away), this leads to a subpar performance from these groups, who don't really care about the institution like they should.
