Astrion currently provides very good health insurance which costs me only $200 per month for full coverage for me and my wife. Astrion also has 'unlimited leave' which is really how often your manager approves it. The leave comes in addition to 11 paid federal holidays. I word on the SEMATS contract so it may vary for other contracts in the same company. This company is incredibly stable and you would have to commit a felony to be fired.

Astrion is a government contractor so their pay is determined by what they bid the government. Unfortunately, in order to win the contract, they under bid. The opportunities for growth are scarce and they are constantly moving the finish line. There is very little transparency for raises and pay adjustments. I hope you never have to travel because they make that nearly an act of god. The travel policies change 2 or 3 times a year and there is ton of paperwork which is also constantly changing in format. I have had multiple conflicts where I file my travel only to find out my reimbursement has been denied because the policy for how to upload a receipt has changed. Also, there is really no company culture and it seems to be a landing spot for people to retire or start a career. There is really no middle class due to the inability to reliably get a promotion.

This company pushes its FTO program as a major perk, but it’s nothing more than a marketing tactic. You’re expected to bill 1,880 hours, which makes true time off practically impossible. After you subtract mandatory meetings, admin work, and the reality of non‑billable tasks, you’re left with about 112 hours of actual usable time off for the entire year — far worse than a standard PTO plan. Even worse, the company penalizes you for using the tiny amount of time off you do have. Taking FTO is routinely held against employees during merit reviews, creating a culture where the “flexibility” they brag about is actually a trap. The message is clear: take time off and your raise disappears. If you’re considering joining, understand this upfront: the FTO program is not a benefit. It’s a way for the company to avoid tracking PTO while squeezing as many billable hours out of you as possible.
