This is not an easy job, just telling you straight up. Our turn over was pretty high because people had no idea how hard they have to work. These stores are warehouses, they are huge and the staff is very lean. While i worked there i learned how challenging it was to reset the Seasonal Department. especially Christmas. I worked here for 2 and a half years and i was fortunate to work with some hard working individuals that were willing to do what it takes to survive this hell. My first week i was sore from walking and lifting shelving all day in a single shift. Alot of times new hires will take off during their lunch break and never come back, leaving us short handed. If you work here be prepared to be short handed all the time. Customers can be very demanding and get upset with you because they walk around the huge store and not find a single employee. I heard so many complaints from customers that i came accustomed to hearing so much negativity. Many times we are left on our own devices when a manager is busy or on the other side of the store, you have to learn to deliver bad news to people, whether it be having no more similar products left in stock or the item they want is damaged and can only offer 5% off. I was scheduled part time but worked nearly full time hours, coming around 39.5 week after week with no benefits offered because im 'part time'. This is not a good company to work for, they used to be GARDEN RIDGE, which is notorious for bad customer service and a very hard place to work. I started working here when it was Garden Ridge and when they made the transition to At Home, it got a lot worse. Despite the training and orientation meeting that we had when the company announced its changes to the structure. I consider myself lucky that i worked here for so long, ive seen many, many people come and go. I feel really bad for the co-workers i left behind.
