Very Bad management. The design manager lacks the knowledge and skills to be a design manager. He has NO design experience, is insecure, has serious anger issues and makes the environment very toxic at times. There's absolutely NO room for growth or salary increases unless you're in good with the owners. There are NO yearly reviews and the experienced designers are forced to sign a no-compete contract that last 2-3 years.
