A lot of your tables are big parties, which can take up most of your shift, so if they tip poorly because the check total is high and they’re scared of it (which happens— my friend was a great server, super personable, everyone loved him, but about 30% of the time he’d get a really kind note and a garbage tip), you work all night for $30.
