Vantaggi

Working with people you like, respect and admire is probably the best thing about this job. This comment applies to managers and teammates alike. Exposure is great as long as you are up for the challenge of switching topics/industries once every few months, and there are people who truly believe in you and will root for you and help you grow your career.

Svantaggi

Typical of consulting, hours are long and lifestyle is very unpredictable, but management is trying to make it better through "PTO" initiative. However, yet to see usefulness in Greater China region where client management is more difficult. Pay at lower levels is lower than other regions, which is a drawback to anyone wishing to transfer in Some transfer-ins have unrealistic expectations that if they speak good-enough Chinese they will be able to get the "China exposure" and work with Chinese clients. The truth is, Chinese clients even find native Chinese' language grasp poor, so staffing foreigners will be a stretch

Vantaggi

BCG has top tier benefits, really smart colleagues, good in-office perks, and has a great company reputation. This was a huge part of my experience and has made me go back forth about my decision to leave.

Svantaggi

This is speaking as someone who is not on the consulting side. On my particular team, office politics were very strong with little to no opportunities for people outside of the inner circle to assimilate. More broadly, I feel like the salary trajectory was a little slow, there is a lack of location mobility and and promotions can be hard to come by. Even so, I have personally seen exceptions be made for certain people. More broadly, being located in North America can be difficult since new roles are being open in other regions which is making internal mobility next to impossible. If you have any dissatisfaction with your current team, title, or level - there's a real possibility that you will have to wait multiple years before being able to make meaningful shifts towards your long term career goals.
