A Disconnected and Unproductive Work Environment with toxic culture - Recensione dipendente - Accountant presso Brookfield

I worked at Brookfield Asset Management as an accountant for one year. During my time there, I encountered several challenges, particularly with upper management, especially at the director level. One of the most difficult aspects of my experience was navigating a toxic work environment, which included both overt and subtle instances of bullying. These actions contributed to a hostile atmosphere, and despite raising concerns, my feedback was often dismissed or met with defensiveness. The environment felt stifling, and despite working long hours, I found myself being micromanaged to a degree that ultimately affected my mental health. Additionally, communication from leadership was consistently poor. Key decisions were made without consulting the employees who would be directly impacted, which led to a lack of transparency and further contributed to the disconnection between management and staff. This, combined with the failure to adequately address workplace bullying, fostered an unhealthy sense of toxic competitiveness within the team, further undermining morale. I believe Brookfield Asset Management would greatly benefit from a comprehensive review of its management practices, particularly at the director level, with a focus on creating a more inclusive, respectful, and transparent culture. While the company does offer online training courses, including an anti-bullying module, I believe these courses are not sufficient given the broader issues with management behavior and the work environment. Addressing workplace bullying, improving communication, and promoting a culture of respect would significantly enhance both employee well-being and productivity. Unfortunately, my time at Brookfield left me feeling disrespected and unsupported, but I am grateful to have moved on to a new role where I am valued and respected. I do hope the company takes steps to improve, for the benefit of its current and future employees.
