Vantaggi
Wonderfully structured fun focused camp for children 6-16.
Svantaggi
BEWARE, I have been a critical care RN for 28+ years. I took a summer nurse position at CBR while recovering from a shoulder replacement. CBR is a wonderful camp for the kids but not for the workers. The working hours and the physical condition of the clinic greatly contrasted with what had been portrayed. We worked 14-15 + hours daily, 6 days a week with little opportunity for a break and had numerous night time awakenings. Each day consisted of camp intake assessments for every camper (first week only), medication dispensing, walk in injuries, illnesses, emergencies and multiple clinic admissions. We were required to pull the meds for each camper (50 + for breakfast and dinner), transport them with the MARs to the mess hall, and dispense to the campers from a window in the sweltering hot storage area. The clinic itself was dirty with broken chairs, missing blinds in 2 of the 3 rooms, black mold in and around the 2 large leaking areas in the exam/kitchen/medication ceiling and in a patient area. The first day we found rodent feces in the cabinet where the medications were kept and the plastic bag in which all the medications were stored had chew holes in the corner. We also found rodent feces in both nurses’ sleeping quarters, the kitchenette, and the exam room. On or about the third night I started waking with a headache and cough. In the next 7 days, this progressed into a serious case of bronchitis/sinusitis, which required a visit to a local clinic for medical attention, antibiotic, steroids and cough medicine. Upon return, I noticed white spots at the head of my bed. After further investigation, I found that the entire wall, from corner to corner (covered by furniture), full of white mold which had clearly been growing for some time. Due to my illness and the aforementioned conditions, I provided my oral resignation notice to the owner, Lori Waldman. She informed me in quite a rude fashion that she found my action irresponsible, I was letting the children down and that she had never had a nurse leave in the middle of a session in over 20 years that she has been running the camp. The nurse who replaced me lasted 5 days and the nurse who replaced him resigned after 24 hours. I’m confident that with the unprincipled representation of this camp nurse position, my experience was not unique.
