Decent job but upper management detached from reality of in store situations - Recensione dipendente - Customer Service Associate presso Co-op

Corporate decisions when I worked there were out of touch and unhelpful. I worked at one store and had several friends working at others in the same city (York, UK). Friday and Saturday nights we only had two people working. One person on tills, and one person trying to do literally every job that needed doing in back, while having to jump on tills whenever there was a queue. This wasn't just an issue of stress/being busy, there was a huge problem with shoplifters and unsavory customers. Training was conflicting, we were not 'supposed' to stop shoplifters, but maintaining a presence for prevention was impossible while shortstaffed. And management still encouraged/asked us to chase after people. It did not feel safe, and we were told by in store management that they were not allowed/able to budget more hours/staff.
