Raises, if they're even given out, are insultingly small. Employees are overworked and undervalued, some of the management has never been trained on managing and are therefore ineffective. There is very little opportunity for personal growth. Some entire departments are considered not important by the CEO and are treated as such. No overtime pay - just extra time off is given, yet employees are expected to work various after-hour and weekend events for no extra pay. Neighborhood is not safe, assigned parking means newer employees have to park on the street indefinitely until someone leaves and a space opens up. The other half of the staff (typically those that have been with the company a long time) are mostly negative, petty, and lazy, leading to an overall dismal environment. The general atmosphere and lack of appreciation discourages employees from doing more than the bare minimum (which is often already too great a workload for any one person), meaning that the majority of the staff is unhappy and unpleasant.
