People work smart- excessive overtime is rare and general work/life balance is good and valued which is rare in asia

From my experience promotions were based on length of service to keep things 'fair'. Growth and great performance wasn't particularly rewarded- it was all about how long you'd worked there. Strange rules about access to resources based on rank. You had to be on your best behavior around managers and couldn't have open dialogue with them / share opinions
