You will not get paid. You will be lied to by the COO and the publisher and their “man behind the curtain”, as to why they can’t pay you. THE COO is the most dishonest person I have ever met. He has lied to and cheated every employee that has worked for him since he came aboard in 2016 as the COO. He has lied to clients, vendors, squandered thousands of dollars the company has made and doesn’t know the first thing about the newspaper business. He and his silent partner (who works out of Philadelphia and no one has ever seen), are the main reason the company filed chapter 11 in December 2017. Since summer 2017, The Director of Advertising, Managing Editor, all full time reporters and a second Managing Editor all have resigned due to late and most of the time lack of paychecks. The insurance coverage was defaulted on (which the COO and his silent partner told employees they were paying, when in fact they were not). When they lost coverage they told the employees it was a mix up with the DC government. Come to find out from their broker, it was cancelled due to lack of payment. I personally witnessed them lying to vendors as to when they were sending checks for payment, then deliberately not sending them. The bankruptcy filing listed the company with over 1 million dollars in debt and only 50 thousand in assets. A lot of this is from the previous owner and publisher, but made significantly worse by the devious, unethical business tactics of the COO and his silent partner. The Current used to be respectable, well read community newspaper, now they are at the point where they only publish when they have the money. They lie to advertisers about the publishing schedule and do not return money for ads that never ran. My advice is work anywhere else except here.
