The mission can be rewarding. I learned a lot about military operations at the operational and strategic level. It was great getting to see a different perspective than the support side.

The general officer/flag officer leadership never seemed to take advice or perspective from their subordinate staff. We would provide after action reviews and they would listen and then do nothing. Then the same mistakes would keep reoccurring which is burning the staff out.
