Vantaggi
The office is close to BART and other public transportation. Great, smart colleagues. There is free lunch almost every Tuesday for the project management team.
Svantaggi
Upper management is not interested in employee feedback and does not care about improving working conditions for their team members. Employees are tasked with setting up sham committees to improve quality of work and life. The ideas and suggestions formed in these committees are ultimately rejected by management and replaced with their own ideal of how things should be done. This is very demoralizing for an already overworked and stressed out team. Project managers are expected to be on call 24/7, and there is no work life balance. As a result, the turn over and burn out rate is high. Employees are punished for their mistakes. Consequently, people are in perpetual CYA mode. This contributes to a general level of distrust between departments. There are no annual reviews. As a result, standards for promotion are subjective and largely dependent on how well you massage your boss' ego. If you threaten to quit, they will give you more money. The salary and benefits are terrible and do not compensate for the long hours worked by the project management team. There is no maternity leave or matching 401K. There is no sick time. If you get sick, you will be forced to take PTO.
