This was my first job as an EMT and I learned a lot about all aspects of healthcare that will benefit me in the future as I continue education and expand my scope of practice. I was paid what was minimum wage at the time and did not receive any raises. Shifts went over the scheduled time very often which is not uncommon for EMS. I was often scheduled with people who did not care at all about anything which sucked because we were stuck with each other for 8-12 hours (often longer because dispatch would assign us a call with 20 minutes remaining in the shift). I was also frequently given the responsibility of training new employees and drivers without an increase in pay
