Good opportunities to learn for fresh grads who are willing to learn and put in the time to gain experience. A great look into the ins and outs of the food industry. Very high turnover for a small company. On estimate, about 10+ people are "let go" in one year. And apparently, this is well known in the industry, but unbeknownst to most just starting a career. Employees do not have job security. They feel motivated when times are good, and lose motivation when someone is let go - and unfortunately, this is quite a repeating cycle that is very hard to ignore. People gossip and wonder who is next. It is very unsettling especially for new people starting in the company. There is no clear reason why employees are let go - most people guess that they did not get along with the owners or have had opposing ideas or discussions with them. Personality and chemistry with the owners and a few long-standing employees are key, and will determine how long you will be advanced and encouraged in the company. Lots of growing pains for the company, lots of difficulties figuring how to advance, who to say "no" to or how to find the next niche business especially in an industry that is under attack, selling sweets and carbs. No clear strategy. Employees have difficulty figuring out what opportunities to take only to be told that this is not the way they should be going.
