Vantaggi

- In-lab staff and shift managers are friendly and helpful. - Work does not leave the lab or need to be done off the clock. - Basic health benefits.

Svantaggi

- There have recently been a series of multiple pay cuts for all Lab Operator positions, as well as a cut in vacation hours by over 50%. Pay has become highly unstable and falls below promised "annual pay" amounts. - In addition to vacation hours being cut, it's very difficult to even have a vacation request approved, as NO MORE THAN ONE person may take a vacation on a given day for a given shift. Notification of approval/rejection of a vacation request will not be given until a week before the date, regardless of how early the request was submitted. - Schedules for Lab Operators are now completely unpredictable, as shifts are now assigned only one week before, making it very difficult to make plans outside of work. This and the restrictive vacation policy make it nearly impossible to maintain a healthy work/life balance. - The newest sick time policy now forces Lab Operators to work while sick, or it will be designated an "unexcused absence", three of which will result in disciplinary action/termination, regardless of sick time being used. Only sick time requested 48-hours in advance is considered "excused", which is clearly an unreasonable expectation. - As such, there has been significant turnover in the Lab Operator role (over 50% the staff have quit), and even Lab Operators who had worked for the company for multiple years have left within the last 3 months. Claims of "low turnover over the last 10 years" are highly misleading at best, and outright lies at worst. - Upper management wants to increase scrutiny of "metrics", which are similar to TOT or "time on task" for Amazon warehouse employees. However, task metrics at ECL are not at all proportional to work completed, so unlucky Lab Operators who are assigned protocols with long tasks will likely be vulnerable to disciplinary action through no fault of their own. - Other perks, such as break room snacks, have also nearly gone away as the budget has been significantly downsized, and supplies frequently run out despite the diminished staff.

Employees should discuss any issues directly with Human Resources or their shift managers. We have had numerous meetings to discuss all the changes. If you would like to discuss these matters with me, please send me a note. I would also appreciate that you present FACTS when posting issues in a public forum like Glassdoor. We continue to provide free food at the office and yes, the free dinners and lunches from Doordash have been discontinued since Covid restrictions have been lifted. We stated this was being done to ensure the safety our our employees. Operators have seen a least a 15% increase in their wages just this year. The vacation plan has been adjusted so that every employee has the same vacation accrual across the company to be fair and consistent. Requiring employees to meet performance metrics is part of working for any organization and ECL is no different. Lastly I will recognize that things have been fast moving and lots of changes have happened in the last 18 months. A Pandemic in the middle of growing a business will do that. We will always acknowledge that start ups are not for everyone and that we are will continue to have an open door policy and encourage you and anyone else to discuss these matters with me. Good luck to you.

Vantaggi

I worked at Emerald Cloud Lab from October 27, 2025 to June 29, 2026 as a Lab Operator contractor, and I received a full-time offer. My overall experience has been very positive and meaningful. When I started, I did not have previous lab experience, but the training, SOPs, supervisors, and teammates helped me learn step by step. I gained hands-on experience with lab workflows, equipment, aseptic techniques, safety procedures, documentation, and quality standards. The Lab Operator role requires strong personal responsibility. You have to manage yourself, stay organized, pay full attention, and follow procedures carefully. Accuracy is very important because even small mistakes can affect experiments or production. This job helped me build discipline, focus, and confidence. I also want to recognize my manager and supervisors. They are very knowledgeable, and whenever issues happen, they take action and solve problems very well. I believe my manager has strong future leadership potential at a top level. The SI-Ops team is also very knowledgeable and supportive. I learned a lot from the team, and I appreciate how they share their experience and help operators improve. Receiving a full-time offer after working hard as a contractor made me feel that my effort, attitude, and growth were recognized. I am grateful for the opportunity. I would also like to recognize the HR team for being professional, responsive, and very helpful throughout the hiring and onboarding process. They provided clear guidance, answered my questions promptly, and made the transition from contractor to full-time employee smooth and well organized.

Svantaggi

The job can be physically and mentally demanding. The shifts are long, and the work requires full attention during the whole shift. There are many procedures, instruments, and systems to learn, so the beginning can feel overwhelming. The pace can also be busy, and priorities may change quickly. Because accuracy is very important, the pressure to avoid mistakes can be stressful sometimes.
