Ostensibly being a manager at Epic is not necessarily a higher position, but in practice Epic does not properly seek and value input from tenured experts who are less interested in management when considering strategic direction and priority. Nobody at Epic will ever tell you no. This is great as you can pursue anything you're interested in, but tragic as your manager will not really help you pursue those interests or big ideas that will help the company at large.
