Vantaggi

* Getting payed over six figures was nice as a starting PM role. * Expedia is a very big company, but has a very laid back vibe in most teams. Though there's been some leadership changes wanting this to change for tech teams - become more like Google lol. * Great Benefits! * People hired are often (at least superficially) kind. * Most prod/tech teams go to the office 2-3 days a week. *The Austin office was very big with nice amenities - there's free snacks and refreshments. A gym. Lots of places to work. There's a food service that brings in food and a wholefoods next door. * Travel and wellness bonus is 1200 or so.

Svantaggi

* Product at Expedia can be a hit or miss depending on your team. There's opportunities to do impactful work and feel great with your own team- but the folks in your team need to be up for that too. * Product management at Expedia requires stepping on a lot of toes and self-initiative to create great products, there's so many people working at different paces and across different time zones. There's always insecure product/engineering peers that may try to hinder you - but that comes with lots of product jobs - you need to consider optics, promotion, snaky peers, toxic managers, etc. It's quite an impersonal culture -nice but impersonal. My first team required lots of self-initiative even though I required much more direct instruction since it was my first corporate job (ever). My second team there was more visible to leadership and had clearer deadlines and a more fun relatable team atmosphere.

Vantaggi

Good pay, supportive manager, and genuinely pleasant colleagues.

Svantaggi

Frequent reorgs and shifting strategic direction made it difficult to build momentum or plan long‑term. Over time, contractor roles became increasingly narrow and production‑focused, which limited opportunities for meaningful skill development. Responsibilities that originally included project management were reduced to primarily email production work. There’s also a broader corporate pattern where work is expected to be completed exactly as written, with little room for judgment or improvement. Even small, quick optimizations can lead to pushback rather than appreciation, creating an environment where going “above and beyond” requires multiple layers of approval — which defeats the purpose of being proactive in the first place. Finally, there’s an in‑office expectation (less strict than for full‑time employees, but still present) for work that can be done entirely remotely. This tends to benefit highly social personalities, but for those who prefer focused, independent work, it feels unnecessary. Social dynamics also play a noticeable role; if you’re not immediately well‑liked or you make a single early mistake, it can create a self‑fulfilling perception that’s difficult to overcome.
