Good colleagues, a good provost, mostly good students (and a few who are extremely good), low cost of living area. Clear, challenging, but reasonable expectations for tenure. Nice old trees in some parts of town.

Football culture, ugh. Sleazy politicians at the top harming the many decent lower-level folks. A good provost, but variable deans, very variable chairs, and a criminally underfunded library. Very worrisome future horizons. Assessment wonk, a young and hyper-ambitious ed-school type, changed our good curriculum to an experimental nightmare. Far too much committee work and busy-service-work, but that varies by department. As a place to live, Tallahassee is difficult at best. "Cheap" is about the only good thing I can say. Two good restaurants in town. No real culture. Extreme heat and humidity most of the year; brief respite in January and February only. Every smart colleague I know is on the market; this is a chance for some big universities to cherry-pick some under-appreciated talent.
