In 20 years of working in Silicon Valley, Formation Data Systems is my favorite place to work. I love the drive to be successful and the challenging nature of the job. I like the genuine enthusiasm for the technology from upper management, and the smart, charismatic leadership gives me a reason to look forward to coming in to the office every day.

Startup life in 2nd round of funding can be full of pressure. Sometimes I have to move my vacation around. It's not an easy-cushy, "do your one-thing" job.

Formation has a great culture, awesome product and the team is fully empowered to execute on the vision. Offices in Fremont, CA and Boulder CO provide access to a lot of startup resources and the company provides a lot of open communications with weekly all hands meetings to provide status on customer deployments and an "open-door" policy with open, honest communications. Lunches are provided and the company makes sure that employees have the tools they need to get their jobs done effectively. Formation uses agile development methodologies to be able to respond to customer requests and market/competitive opportunities very quickly.

Formation is a small startup company, competing in a very big market (Data Center Cloud Storage) so it is expected that there will be a lot of competition, but seems to have the right management team to navigate this closely.
