Colleagues were genuinely the best part of working at Formula Fig. My coworkers were supportive, fun, and a pleasure to work with, and we formed really close bonds! It’s also a decent entry point into the aesthetics industry if you’re new and want initial exposure to the field.

While the role is positioned as growth-focused, the reality didn’t match what was promised. During the interview process, I was told that Fig strongly encourages upward and sideways progression and that there are plenty of opportunities to grow, but that wasn’t my experience at all. Despite repeatedly asking about development and offering ideas for myself and my colleagues, nothing was ever actioned. Training is occasionally offered, but bookings aren’t paused, so you’re expected to continue treating clients while the training is happening, meaning you miss the training. The Vancouver bar managers are kind but seem to have little influence over decisions around training, development, or pay. There is also noticeable favoritism from the treatment manager and lead, which can be very discouraging. The tipping system is awkward, requiring guests to scan a QR code in the treatment pod, and you have to explain this yourself, which feels uncomfortable. Pay is low for the amount of training required, and when I asked for a raise, I was offered an extra $1/hour, which appears to be standard. This is especially tough given the cost of living in Vancouver.

Team members and estheticians are all good people. You get free product every once in a while. Customers aren't the worst. CEO and vision behind a woman owned and operated brand is great.

Everyone here is extremely overworked. The booking system allows nine appointments back to back in one shift. The physical requirements of BOTH esthetician or GEA positions lead to extreme back and wrist pain. Raises and promotions are not offered. Management is extremely passive- aggressive and the micromanagement here is the worst I’ve ever experienced. Additionally, store employees are not allowed to use the nice restrooms, and must enter and exit work through the back door. Corporate employees act as though store workers are beneath them and treat them like servants. Promotional discounts created often fail to consider working conditions: clients and influencers leave no gratuity after receiving free services, even if they are 1 hr +. Pay is not enough for the above and beyond service delivered. Turnover is high
