Vantaggi
When I was there, there were wonderful coworkers (but now, as I understand it, there are only 3 employees left, so I can't speak to what they're like or who they are). Jewelry is a great industry and Fortuna WAS a good place to get your foot in the door and then run as fast as you can to another role--but now with their horrible reputation that's not the case. The owners are in Florida now, so the tension that arose whenever they were at the office is likely gone now. Ask current employees to write reviews after a bad one has been posted
Svantaggi
I wasn't going to write this review as I had chosen to leave this horrible experience in the past, but after seeing their recent court filings and realizing the CEO still takes zero accountability, I had to speak up. The CEO is full of himself and never takes responsibility for his role in the company's failures. He is always looking for someone to blame, and whenever that scapegoat leaves (be it by firing or of their own accord), the CEO finds someone new to blame. Even if you leave on good terms, they will badmouth you once you are gone. They are involved in many lawsuits (Google it, they're mentioned in Fortuna's recent Chapter 11 Bankruptcy filing). Not mentioned in the filing is at least one other case they've had against a former employee that got dismissed but the CEO still brings it up as if he was in the right. NO work-life balance. No empathy--oh, did someone near and dear to an employee die? Hope they're back in on Monday...oh wait, they're not? HOW DARE THEY (I witnessed this happen to another employee). When the week off we had in December was taken away and an employee asked if we would get anything else in instead (such as more PTO), the CEO said "I don't want to promote weakness or laziness." No remote work--which is ironic because they were quite militant about this and then the owners decided to up and move to Florida, and all they do now is work remotely. Their horrible reputation is well deserved; everyone in the building knows it has been brought up to me by everyone from random people in the elevator to the doorman. Your loyalty will go unrewarded. Bringing up politics. So many shady dealings: aside from their not paying people on time as noted in the Google and TrustIndex reviews, they sneak and conspire, they illegally retaliate against employees, they put employees in danger during covid, they offer new employees benefits that they don't offer existing staff, they accuse employees of stealing information. Shady dealings with investors, though, quite honestly, the investors were awful managers as well. They will sing your praises, "this is an outstanding team" bla bla bla, only to not repay you for that achievement. CEO has no jewelry training and doesn't attempt to learn about anything going on in the business but that doesn't stop him from criticizing it or taking credit for the positives. Revolving door of employees--and from the above, is it any wonder? Incredibly disrespectful treatment of co-owner / co-founder. Put employees in incredibly awkward positions when consignors call about their missing payments, and employees have to put them off. Honestly there's so much more, but this is all I have the energy for right now.
