Vantaggi

Got to straddle the line of being "in tech" and also being a "local utility", which was great for dinner party conversations. Unmatched learning opportunities, almost greenfield at the time I was part of the company. I loved that NOC folk got to ridealong with the field engineers. See the city from many different rooftops.

Svantaggi

The "Cons" I would have listed have been resolved by their acquisition and were pecuniary in nature: (older equipment, bounced paychecks, no perks, no heat in winter) There didn't seem to be a well defined path for career advancement at the time I was there, other than most support engineers eventually moved up into the NOC. Once there it was sort of a dead end. There was a "butt-in-seat" philosophy, that began around 9am. Once, out of frustration, the CEO took away the desk chairs of everyone who wasn't there at 9. You had to go to his office to retrieve yours along with some admonishments.

Vantaggi

Genuinely friendly team culture and a great atmosphere. Free lunch is a nice perk. Having the Google name was a big plus for sales. This was back when it was still under the original Google name then GFiber was spun off as an independent entity.

Svantaggi

Came to the ISP market late. High turnover. Incredibly convoluted internal processes and procedures. Tools are far from intuitive, and too many events are scheduled without considering that salespeople need to be out selling—not attending events or stuck wrestling with overly complex internal systems. Management seemed confused and directionless.
