Following the merger with the VDC team, HDS leadership adopted a rigid approach that favored one methodology over a more collaborative integration of best practices. The team is consistently understaffed despite recent layoffs, and raises remain limited. Promotion appears to favor conformity over critical thinking, and professionalism isn't consistently upheld across the board.

It is disheartening to hear that your experience was so negative, and we want to assure you that this information is of huge importance to us as we aim to improve, adapt and refine our processes. The decision to merge HDS and VDC was not taken lightly. We believe it will lead to stronger collaboration, more efficient processes and ultimately, better outcomes across the board. That said, we recognize that rebalancing teams and redefining roles is no small undertaking, and it takes time for everyone to find their footing and feel confident in a new structure. At Harris, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do, especially in our design, engineering and VDC work. A strong rapport between these groups is critical to innovation and success. We believe that by creating smaller teams with better defined workflows, we’ll also create more efficient processes and teams with a stronger foundation of trust from leadership down. We believe all challenges can be addressed and overcome so long as team members keep pointing them out. Thanks again for sharing your perspective.

You get exposed to everything related to construction. Everyone is very helpful in getting you up to speed with the project and gives you a good start to being a well-rounded APM if your career goals is to be in the Construction Project Management industry. They also take summer interns to their main headquarters to meet the executives and other interns, good way to network.

If you're an engineering major, you don't really get to practice much engineering knowledge you learn in school, but you still learn a lot of new things in construction.

Beyond expectations. Minimal training to be proficient with the expectations. No concept on family time vs work. GM is all about sales and has no construction knowledge. He has no idea on what it takes to do the work and get projects completed. Plumbing and Mechanical division field personel had their own agendas and does not work for the company. Sheet metal division has a great superintendent and good GF. Building Automation only has 1 person that knows all. The unfortunate thing is Harris expects Josh to be all do all. This company runs on the principle complete 90% and spend another 30% to get to the finish line.
