HighGear hires hires smart, knowledgable, and hardworking people. However, what sets them apart are the other human factors they select for. My coworkers are helpful, honest, fair, and fun to be around. I'm not trying to paint a picture of a perfect utopia. Of course it isn't; but hey, this is the Pros section. I've worked at about ten different places in my life in varying fields, and this is by far the best group of coworkers I've ever had.
HighGear has existed for about 20 years and our application has grown quite large. I entered the company not very familiar with their chosen technical stack. The human factors I mentioned above, coupled with the technical acumen of the software development team has helped me to rapidly expand my own skill set and sharpen my development skills.
The software development team also follows a rigorous planning and estimation process. In my opinion, this helps greatly in setting clear expectations and with work-life balance.
Our customers appreciate both the software that we design and the excellent support they receive. This makes interacting with them a very satisfying part of the job.

The current size of our company means that certain resources and programs that exist for larger companies aren't available, yet at least. In other words, don't count on checking into a Hilton and get a 15% HighGear discount.
A tangible effect of our smaller size limiting some options is that, although I believe they will be expanded in the future, our health care coverage choices are limited.
