Most employees outside of the engineering dept. are enjoyable to work with and easy going. Good benefits (healthcare, vision, etc).

I can't overstate how poor of an engineering culture Hippo has. Bullying and overall toxic behavior is rampant through almost all the upper level engineering management and tech leads. No bottom up innovation is really allowed. Innovation always comes from the top down (architecture group). This leads to almost no opportunities for career growth for anyone else. Retention in engineering is really poor. Most of the team has been at the company either under a year or over 5 years. It was a huge mistake joining Hippo and I would strongly advise reading the other reviews from other tech team members at Hippo before joining.
