I was able to request time off whenever I needed it and you do get discounts in the restaurant even though the food is mediocre.

The manager of Burger Theory, Kalena and the General Manager, Gewan of the hotel are in a romantic relationship with one another. This created and continues to create a very toxic work environment for numerous reasons. Gewan doesn't come in until 10:30 am or 11 am and often leaves early. Kalena often doesn't come in until after 11 am up to 2 pm. They both take the same days off of work and don't leave a drawer in the restaurant at a consistent time of day every day of the week. This causes issues with being able to make change for guests who pay cash. Or if a guest wants to speak to a manager and there isn't one. If you pass messages from customers onto Kalena (names, phone numbers, and brief message for returning phone calls) about complaints, refunds, etc. she more than likely won't call you back. In fact, she has made comments such as "I'm not calling them back". Leaving the customer to grow more frustrated and continue calling with no response or acknowledgement from management. Management often schedules "mandatory" meetings demanding that you show up without reasonable amount of notice knowing that most of their employees work multiple jobs, go to school, or are single parents and otherwise have other obligations besides this hotel. Then they get made when the majority of employees are unable to make other arrangements to accommodate them having this meeting. Management will call and/or text you knowing you are unavailable due to work or school, and will call and text you repeatedly until you respond being extremely disrespectfully and bordering on harassment. There are no growth opportunities or opportunities for advancement. The position you are hired in is the position they will keep you in. They do not allow for anyone to get experience in any other department then the department you were hired in. There are regular call offs from the same people. If someone calls off, management will ask you to work that shift and expect you to cover it until they are available. If you tell them you are not able to, they get upset at you instead of taking it up with the person who called off. The same employees also come in late on a regular basis with no warning. There are no repercussions for them. Often leaving departments unmanned if who is on shift is unable to stay. Management will not cover for this. The time clock system automatically clocks you out after 6 hours of working for 30 minutes. Some departments are not given the opportunity to take a break, but are automatically clocked out for them and expected to continue working during this time. When this is brought up to management, they will give you the run around and say "the time is added to your check". The time is never added to your check. Management hires relatives and friends and favors them. Kalena in particular hires her nieces, one of whom Arri is supposed to be the host and be upfront in the restaurant. However, often is in the kitchen goofing off or sitting on her butt playing games like roblox on her cell phone. If you address this with management, management will find something entirely unrelated to address with you within the next few days to deflect blame. Management does not take accountability. Currently, the hotel has very low scores in ALL departments and is in danger of losing their IHG flag. Employees have brought up ideas to address customer complaints to management for the last several months which have gone ignored by them. Now that corporate and the owners are getting involved due to the severity of the situation, management is blaming their employees making them scapegoats. Management also gossips and spreads rumors about their employees that aren't true. Employees and other management members within this hotel feel unappreciated and overworked. Everyone here is completely tired of the mistreatment and are miserable. The work environment is toxic and unbelievably stressful for the easy work that it should be. Minimum wage is not worth that.
