As an experienced caregiver and caregiving administrator, my experience with Home Instead was destabilizing and deeply disappointing. Management practices were highly disorganized, scheduling practices were reactive and inconsistent, and client care communication was insufficient or lacking. From what I witnessed and experienced, management decisions appeared to prioritize operational convenience over staff stability and continuity of care for clients. After my primary full-time client passed away, my schedule changed abruptly and significantly without clear communication or stable alternatives, despite repeated requests for clarification. These requests went largely unanswered, and the lack of transparency and documentation during this transition resulted in significant personal and financial instability. I went from being described as “the best of the best” and asked to help train new staff to, shortly thereafter, having to formally dispute representations made about the nature and structure of my employment. Those representations did not reflect my lived experience of the role, and multiple claims made were factually inconsistent with documented communications and records in my possession. When communication is limited or verbal and documentation is inconsistent, employees may find themselves in a vulnerable position if formal disputes arise. This occurred in more than one instance during my brief tenure, and involved multiple personnel. In my case, and in other instances I observed, the resulting processes had significant consequences. I witnessed sudden staffing changes, abrupt departures, and a lack of continuity that directly impacted both employees and clients – these patterns reflected broader concerns regarding management practices and day-to-day operational consistency. I strongly encourage anyone considering employment here to insist on written confirmation of all agreements and changes, and to retain thorough documentation from the outset. You will likely care deeply about your clients, but if you are depending on this role for consistent income or clear communication from management, proceed carefully and protect yourself.
